Albert Lea Fire & Rescue
The Albert Lea Fire Rescue building lies in the heart of the City of Albert Lea. The 25,700 square foot structure serves as both a state-of-the-art facility for the city’s Fire Rescue department, and a beacon of connection to the Albert Lea community.
Multiple potential sites were assessed before 417 Newton Avenue was selected for its central location. Strategically sited to enhance response times, the facility supports efficient apparatus movement, safe discharge operations, and streamlined site circulation. Drive-through, double-deep apparatus bays further improve operational readiness and speed.
Architectural precast concrete panels leverage a variety of colors, textures, and finishes to provide great interest to the building’s exterior. Color changing LED lighting illuminates its exterior façade to allow for the potential to alert nearby patrons of departing apparatus. Safety within the station was a priority as we designed designated hot, warm, and cold zones, exhaust systems in the apparatus bays, and strategically placed decontamination areas. The station boasts 12 apparatus bays, a large training room, an emergency operations center (EOC), offices, a combination hose/training tower, second floor living quarters, a day room with kitchen, a fitness room, locker rooms, laundry facilities, and a negatively pressurized SCBA room. The hose tower is a year-round training asset designed for Minnesota’s demanding climate, offering fully integrated interior training capabilities.
