Overview

The Newport City Hall & Public Safety Building is a two-story municipal facility designed to bring three distinct departments under a single, unified roof. The building’s strong, timeless design underscores its role as an anchor of the Newport community.

Brunton Architects was tasked with consolidating the existing fire station, local law enforcement facilities, and the Newport City facilities in a brand new, best-in-class facility. After providing a site analysis, the final design integrates all three municipal functions seamlessly, with a new 26,650 square foot building that  provides for easy use of shared public spaces while keeping secured Operations areas private for the public safety departments. The site of the former fire station is now a public park.

The building’s exterior is constructed of precast panels with inlaid brick and stone. Inside, the city hall boasts a large council chamber, private offices, and a public service counter. The Sheriff’s Department has interview rooms, evidence sorting, and two squad car bays. The Fire Department has 10 apparatus bays, an emergency operations center (EOC), a combination hose/training tower, laundry facilities, a pressurized SCBA room, a day room, steam showers, and an ICC 500 rated storm shelter. The building also includes a training room, exercise room, warming kitchen, conference rooms, and an outdoor seating area.
